Here's a history lesson: In Istanbul the checheya was called 'fez' or 'phecy' while the modern Egyptian version was called 'tarboosh' (pronounced tar-boosh) a derivative from the Persian words 'sar' meaning head and 'poosh' meaning cover. It was basically a brimless, cone-shaped, flat-topped hat made of felt. Originating in Fez, Morocco, later it was adopted in Istanbul where the color of the fez stuck to red. nThis Fez is hand-made in the USA and stands 6" tall, the top of the hat has a diameter of 5 3/4". The black tassel is an inch thick and the fringe is 10" long. Four concentric circle perforations surround the base of the tassel, for ventilation. Available color: Maroon. Available sizes: 6 7/8 to 8.nn
