<< 151. Buy your accessories on sale instead of paying full price for them. It is usually just a matter of time before most accessories will be reduced by 25 to 75 percent or more in price. Rarely should you need to pay full price for accessories.

152. If you absolutely must pay full price for accessories, then shop around for the best price. Prices for similar accessories usually vary substantially among stores.

153. Shop at garage sales, thrift shops, discount stores, factory outlets, and bargain basements for your accessories. Accessories should be the least expensive at these places, unless you can find “super” sales at other types of stores.

154. If you lose the back off one of your pierced earrings, rather than throw the pair away, buy a new back; or, if you have another pair of pierced earrings, use the back from one of those earrings. Even buying a new back should be cheaper than buying a new pair of earrings.

155. If you lose the back off a tie tac, instead of throwing the tie tac away, buy a new back; or, use the back of one of your other tie tacs. Even buying a new back should be less expensive than purchasing another tie tac.

156. If your beads break, restring them instead of discarding them. “String” would be cheaper than a new strand of beads.

157. If your chain necklaces and bracelets break, have them repaired instead of discarding them, if you can have them repaired cheaper than you can buy new ones.

158. Make sure the clasps are secure on your jewelry, including watches, so that there will be less chance of your losing your jewelry. Occasionally, check their security. If you lose them, you will have to replace them (which costs money) or do without them.

159. Check out chain jewelry stores. These stores usually sell similar items at a lower price than “independent,” “individual” jewelry stores. For example, the price of a pair of pearl pierced earrings with a 14 karat gold “back” was $75 at one independent jewelry store and $60 at another one. I bought a comparable pair at a discount chain jewelry store for $40.

160. If you buy “expensive” jewelry choose basic, classic, simple, and traditional designs which will stay “expensive” in style. Having to replace jewelry which is no stylish longer can greatly upset your bank account.

161. If you are buying faddish accessories, pay as little as possible for them. Then, when their short lives are over, you will not have “lost” as much money.

162. Have your “good” jewelry checked occasionally by a jeweler to make sure stones are still secure and that settings have not worn to the point that stones could be lost.

163. Compare the warranties when shopping around for a watch. Put the warranty and sales slip for the one you do buy in a safe place at home for use should the watch need an adjustment or repair while it is still under warranty.
